Dimplex PowerChef Convertible #CBQ-120-ELESTAND Electric Grill with Stand, Black/Silver Review

My video review will follow the assembly stages and my first use of the Dimplex PowerChef Convertible Electric Grill, but it's here that I will let you know what I really think.

Delivery - Buyers should be made aware that this will most likely ship via a freight company. Now while it's nice that the driver will carry it through the front door, it does require them to arrange a "time frame" for delivery. Mine was 8:00am - 12:00pm and of course it was delivered at 11:56am. For anyone on a 9-5 work schedule it's a bit inconvenient, but with the size of the boxes it's understandable.

Unpacking & Assembly - It comes in 2 large boxes. (See my customer image) Both the stand and grill are securely packed with plenty of styrofoam and can be easily removed from their boxes. Tools required for assembly are an allen wrench, small flat wrench (both included) and I recommend a power screwdriver if you have one, although a standard phillips will work. I am very comfortable putting furniture, toys, etc. together and was able to put the stand and grill together in less than 30 minutes.

Use - You have two options for cooking: A pre-programmed setting based on what you will be cooking or manual setting.My first time using it I chose a pre-programmed setting for pork, which worked very well and since then I've also used the manual setting which produced results just the same.After several uses now, my preference is the pre-programmed settings. It just makes grilling a no brainer and allows you to focus on guests or family instead of checking on it constantly. Not only does it preheat the grill, it tells you when to add and turn the meat over and then when it's done. My first night I cooked a marinated pork loin that came out juicy and not at all over cooked. (See my customer image) As a precaution I did use a meat thermometer to check for doneness and it was spot on. As for the taste, it was no different than if I had cooked on my gas grill. Additionally burgers and ribs have been just as delicious.

Clean Up - Before my first use I lined the drip pan with foil to help with clean up.This was the easiest thing to do and I continue to do it each time I feel it needs to be changed.As for the grilling grates, I made one mistake my first use.As with most grills you should oil it down before placing your food on it for the first few times to "season" it. I didn't do this and not only did the pork stick, but it left me a terrible mess to clean. I think it took about 30-45 minutes for me to thoroughly clean it off to my satisfaction. Since then I have oiled it well with vegetable oil before grilling and the meat is no longer sticking.

Overall - I have to admit that I like my gas grill. Preheat time is about the same and clean up is no different than the PowerChef. But where this grill sells me is on the fact that it's always ready (No running out of propane), timed cooking (No need to hover) and it's portable. We can easily remove the grill from the stand, put it in the back of the truck or even in a trunk and take it with us - of course you will need an electrical outlet!Will I be giving up my gas grill? Not yet, but it's not because I don't like the PowerChef.I live in the Pacific Northwest where we have lots of moisture and per the "Important Instructions #13 - Never use an electric grill in the rain, sleet or snow". So while this grill will definitely be our summer grill, it will probably have to go to the garage during fall, winter and spring. For anyone in a dry climate, this will be perfect for you year round!

Weber 6550 Vinyl Cover for Weber Baby Q, Q-100, and Q-120 Grills Review

I was hoping for more of a tight fit around the base of the grill but all this cover really does is drape over. There are cords that can be tightened but, since the cover is somewhat undersized even for my Q120, it can only be tightened a little.

I feel like a large plastic bag would have accomplished the same thing as this cover.

George Foreman GR11WSP3 Champ 36-Square-Inch Nonstick Electric Grill Review

This is my third Foreman grill. The non-stick coating on the previous two eventually wore out, probably because I was using marinades that adhered to strongly. If you just want to grill burgers and chops, this will do it. The only drawback in this inexpensive model is that the plates are not submersible.

This hotplate is compact, affordable and a good value, and offers great control over heat.I bought it for its solid, flat plate, which is much easier to clean and much more stable than exposed-coil heating elements, which tend to rattle around in their drip pan.I bought this not for cooking purposes, but for arts and crafts -- I use it in my studio for steam-setting dyed wool in a canning pot, and also for heating wax and encaustic paints.The "warm" setting and exceptional control over temperature is especially helpful for heating wax and encaustic, which have very low melting- and flash points.While an electric griddle might be a better option for precise temperature control, this hotplate is generally pretty well-made for its price and has a good, multipurpose heating element.

Wolfgang Puck's indoor Reversible Grill - Griddle Review

We ordered this grill to cook breakfast on the weekends.My husband was tired of having to cook multiple batches of pancakes, french toast, bacon, hashbrowns, etc. in a medium cast iron fry pan.After researching the numerous grill/girddles available for sale, we decided to purchase this one because it seemed to offer the most performace at a reasonable price.

Everything we've cooked on this grill has turned out better than we'd hoped for...in fact, it has cook our foods very well.The grill has no cold/hot spots to mention.It's evenly heated throughout.The manual has some recipes included and it also has the recommended cooking time/temp chart that we found handy at first.Experience has taught us to lower the heat from the recommended settings, which appear to be on the higher side.

After cooking so many meals (from breakfast foods to whole fish and everything in between), we are very satisified with the performance of this grill.

I did mention that nothing's perfect in my title for this review.The only reason we are not giving this grill 5 Stars is because of two reasons.

1.The grease/oil drip holes located at one edge of the grill let fluids drop through without any problem; however, the drip tray doesn't catch all of the grease/oil.Some of it ends up on the bottom of the cradle below the drip tray.

2.Under the drip tray are tiny plastic knubs that support the tray itself.After using the grill a few times, I noticed those knubs melted slightly.

To sum it all up, I give this grill 5 Stars for cooking performance and 4 Stars for the two above reasons.I would give this grill 4 ½ Stars overall, but Amazon doesn't let me, so I give it 4 Stars (all things considered).Most of all, I highly recommend this product and I would definitely purchase it again.

Continental CE23721 Small Electric Grill Review

This little skillet is not meant to replace something larger, but it's a great convenience and useful to take traveling. It took preparing two batches to make bacon and eggs for two, but they turned out perfectly, along with the fried potatoes that followed. I have even made complete meals - fried a cup and a half of vegetables (they cook down), emptied them out and scrambled eggs, mixing together in a bowl when done. It's really a very versatile little pan for one or even two people. It would probably make good French toast and grilled cheese sandwiches, tho I have not tried them. It maintains a decently high heat so you can fry things well.

However, the handle is really not easy to remove. So I don't, which means some danger when it's on the counter with the cord hanging down. If you have kids, this pan is probably dangerous - not only dangling parts if you don't want the effort of removing the handle, but it looks like a toy. You can't set a regular temperature, but you get used to using the tiny dial. I agree with the other reviewer that it would not work well with arthritis. The little glass lid works, but does not fit very well. Don't try to carry it with the lid on it - it wobbles off. If the pan was hot, this would be an additional problem.

The non-stick coating has worked so far in terms of holding up, but it does stick a bit over the area that has the heating ring, and sometimes requires paying attention to keep from burning. Still, at the price, it's a very useful little tool for small, quick jobs like caramelizing a few onions for a dish that doesn't otherwise require frying, scrambling up an egg for a snack, reheating a serving of something that needs a birt of browning, and as a traveling companion. Despite its quirks, I love mine and would buy it again.

Got these at the same time I bought the grill. With the additional amazon $25 discount for spending $125, it seemed like a good idea.

However, after making omelets in both the Omelet Plates, and the Baking Plates, I prefer the latter. I like my omelet folded, with the cheese and other fixings in the middle. With the Omelet Plates, you place the eggs and other fixings in the oval indentations. While cooking, it puffs up considerably. You then sprinkle cheese on top after it is done. It tastes fine.

I would wait until you have used the basic plates before you decide you need the Omelet Plates.

Brinkmann 810-7080-4 Gourmet Electric Smoker and Grill, Red Review

I chose this smoker mainly because I found it on sale at one of the home improvement warehouses for only $69.00!.I chose electric because I like the idea that the temp remains constant.The downside is that the temp is not adjustable.On a cool day the temp seems to hover at 225 F which is nice for longer smokes.The documentation says it should be smoking between 250F - 275F.I don't think it can get that high because of some minor issues in its shape.

The smoker has no intentional venting.However, the drum of my unit is not perfectly round; it is oblong.This causes two gaps about 12" in length and about 1/4" wide at its widest point.At first I was concerned with this, but after tasting a brisket and 2 chickens I have smoked, I like the results.

I have yet to try the unit on a hot day so it will be interesting to see what the temperature rises to.I also wish the unit was built with a thermometer to read the temp.

If you can find one of these for cheap, grab it.This is a great intro unit to smoking.I hope I get 3-5 years out of it and then I will upgrade to an insulated unit (if I am still smoking.

BTW, this can double as a small grill.

Meco 9320 Electric Cart Grill, Satin Black Review

I'm "REALLY!" in to a healthier lifestyle, and subscribe to "several" respected health e-zines.

1. 15+ years ago I read tests that charcoal BBQ's- really put "LOTS" of very bad carciniogens into your meat!

2. So I went to a gas BBQ. Not as good tasting as charcoal, but "SUPPOSEDLY" healthier?
NOT!- Now I read tests that gas BBQ's are little healthier than charcoal! The "deadly" carciniogens are in the drippings smoke- coming from the hot lava rocks below!

3. So I now go to the MECO electric grill.
Pros-
a. Healthier- as virtually no smoke (grill/elements are steeply slanted, and drippings collect in a handy pan under the grill).

b. No having to mess with expensive propane gas...

c. Well made, and sturdy.

d. Low fire danger- Acceptable for most apartment complexes. ASK!

e. Sears steaks well (preheat on high for 15+ min, and close lid FAST! Requires a "Heavy Duty" electric outlet!). Cooks just as fast (or faster) than gas. BUT, "NO!" BBQ taste! You will probably need a marinade...
Good "web search" recipe I found for steaks...-
I pre-mix & rub in, a blend of-
salt ("AlsoSalt"- is very healthy and GOOD tasting!), black pepper, chili powder (all in equal parts...), and a little cayenne pepper. You can also add any other seasonings you like, to taste...

PAM makes a "High Temp" cooking spray, for the grill ONLY (leaves a "varnish like" residue on pans!).

AMAZING! CLEANING TIP, for burned on... foods!!!This works on ALL pans/grills...-
1. Clean/scrub conventionally..., as best you can.
2. Mix a little water with Comet, and make a paste. Wipe on burned surface. Place in a sealed plastic bag/garbage sack..., and leave for 24 hours.
3. Should now clean easily with Dawn & scouring pad... (may take two applications?).

4. Cons-
a. This is difficult and time consuming (2+ hours! & I'm VERY handy!), to assemble!
Tips- Pounding on the axel end caps was a challenge (finally laid it on it's side, and put a 1/4 drive socket (for backing, on the other end)) & hold cap with pliers.

You will surely drop screws...!!! (I put an old sheet underneath it).

The product does the job it's designed for! It was not easy to put together! I would like to see a waterproff cover for the grill so it can be left outside during the summer months.

This grill was purchased to avoid using gas or charcoal....love the convenience of just turning it on and quite satisfied with the results but now wish I had gotten the rectangular model.The lack of a hinged lid is awkward and the round shape makes it a bit difficult to do shish kabobs (or maybe I need to get shorter skewers) For what it is though, it performs great and is ideal for steaks, burgers, hot dogs etc.

West 6130 Bend Raclette Party Grill Review

This item doesn't even diserve a one star. I've used other raclettes before at friends houses, and decided to buy one myself.Big mistake, I was excited to finally have one of my own and invited my friends over.My friends are from Germany and France and the Raclette is a big item for them there.We turned it on, it heated real nice at first, then the top slowly warped (kinda like when you put a cold cookie sheet in the oven and warps) until the food wouldn't cook much less stay on the grill top.I decided to try to cook an egg on the flat side and the top tipped over and raw egg went everywhere.First I thought that maybe I didn't have it sitting on the metal prongs properly and tried readjusting it 3 times, but when it's warped it doesn't matter.And after a while we could hardly get the cheese to melt.When we turned it off it slowly started to flatten out, but not completely.
I recommend you purchase a better quality grill.

Char-Broil 4984722 Premium Electric Rotisserie Review

I received this as a gift and have used it about four times so far. It was OK to install, but interestingly enough the brackets don't fit my Thermos grill all that well. Surprising since both the grill and rotisserie are made by Charbroil.

The motor mount won't adjust quite enough to allow the spit to turn without hitting the lid of the grill. I compensated by slightly propping the lid open ~1\4". You may have to remove the grills themselves to allow the food to turn freely.

I was able to cook two chickens at the same time without much difficulty, but it would be nice if you could buy a second set of prongs to better hold multiple pieces. Overall, for the money, it's a great tool and the resulting food turned out delicious everytime.

Sanyo HR-T3 Electric Indoor Roaster Review

I use this grill pretty often for fish and I'm definitely happy with the results.You get the top & bottom going at once so it reduces the cook time, and not having to flip anything over is nice.Foods are very flavorful, and any issues I've had are user-error (ie. I overestimated how long something needed to cook).It doesn't take terribly long to get into a rhythm where you know exactly how long your favorite food needs to be in the roaster.I've had it a few months and the smoke & odor from the unit is pretty limited.Sometimes there's a faint smell of whatever is cooking, but I think that's to be expected (and actually pleasant; part of eating is smelling).

It's not particularly big, but I can still get three or four filets on it at once, and if you're short on counter space the footprint is pretty small which is a plus.I like that the height is adjustable; helps to create a little more space if you have some bigger foods in it.Haven't noticed any severe staining, but I try to clean it right after using it.Even so, it really seems easier to wipe clean than some of the other roasters I've used.

For it's purposes this is a really nice roaster that can handle a variety of foods.Great price, too.

Swissmar KF-77041 Gourmet 8-Person Raclette Grill, Black Review

I had been looking for a good raclette grill for sometime, after using several different styles at friends and families homes, I saw this one on Amazon. It arrived intact with all the necessary parts and is very easy to use. The grill top reverses to a crape grill which is also fun.
I recommend this particular grill above others I have used for several reasons. First, it can accomodate 8 people, while many grills max out at 6. Second, it has an adjustable temperature. We generally start out at a higher temperature then when everyone has slowed down and wants to eat slowly and talk I adjust the temperature down. Third, the grill is easy to clean. Its non-stick surface easily wipes off. I would advise to only use the included scrapers on the non-stick surface, if it gets scratched it will not be as easy to use. And fourth, it is very sturdy. This is a solidly built grill and looks great on the table. It is a little more money than some other models, but if you want to use it for years I would definately invest in the better grill.
