I have long been skeptical of "deep frying" at home.The smell, the mess, the smell...Anyway, I recently decided to throw a fish fry and decided it was time to invest in a fryer.The biggest issue for me in purchasing a fryer was the sturdiness of the burner stand.Besides having the ability to heat 12 quarts of oil, I also wanted a burner stand that would hold the weight of 20 quarts of beer for my homebrewing.I decided on the Bayou Classic.

This Bayou Classic kit came with everything and setup was simple.The burner stand exceeded my expectations for sturdiness and the height was such that when using the 10 quart stock pot, you could place the burner stand on a safe sturdy work surface to elevate it off the ground.I plan on also using this burner with my wok.The burner was able to bring the oil to temperature in approximately 15 minutes.The Fish and Chips turned out great.

Of course when using 350 degree boiling oil, you do not want your weekend fry festival to end with either a trip to your local burn unit or a reason to see if Allstate really has you in good hands.Common sense must prevail and last time I checked, Amazon does not sell that yet.Set your fry area up away from kids, pets and anything that you want to see another day.If you follow that simple advice, all should turn out okay.

Clean up can be best described as "sticky", but in order to get the life out of your aluminum parts, don't skimp.Now that I have tackled fish and chips, I will have to move on to the other "must have" fried foods these days: turkeys, chickens, and Twinkies.I can't wait.

Honestly, how great can an electric outdoor grill be? You aren't going to get a smoky flavor and the great marks of a charcoal grill.

That said, for an electric grill it's very good. The grill got pretty hot (I didn't have to use the highest setting to cook up a very tasty chili-marinated skirt steak, and a pretty good salmon steak. The convenience is great, and it's obviously safer. And, since we aren't allowed to have gas or charcoal in our grilling location, it's the best we can do.

The speaker system is fine -- nothing to write home about. It's weird that it has two plugs to plug in, but it's convenient to not have to have multiple devices.

Bottom line -- is it as emotionally satisfying to use an electric grill? Absolutely not. But, for what it is, this grill does a pretty good job.

Bayou Classic BG14 Banjo Burner 10 in. x 10 in. Review

Since this has a fairly specific use, I'm going to assume you are building a brew sculpture or making some type of beer burner (like I was). The previous reviews are right on. It had a few castings still in the burner holes, but I was easily able to knock them out with a small screwdriver that fit in the hole.

The other thing to mention is it has four mounting bolts and they are NOT square. So mounting it took a little bit of 'widening' the mounting holes I had made.

The other thing is, this could double as an anchor. It is super heavy, but not likely to break which seems good. It came with an orifice and one mounted, then hooked to my 30lb regulator it put off enough heat during testing to remove my eyebrows! Awesome! I can't wait to actually use it during a boil.

As for noise, it was VERY quiet compared to hurricane burners that I have been using. I was pleasantly surprised and plan to be able to hear music while brewing again.

All in all, I would/will buy another one. Though, if there were another game in town on this, I would probably try them. Since there is not.... oh well.

This is a griddle with optional buffet serving dishes that I've not used, and I wanted a griddle.I thought the dishes were worth $20, one day we'll see.Griddle only is available with a different model number at $20 less.At 27 1/4 x 13 1/2 counting the handles you need to have a storage location lined up.It's quite a bit larger than my prior (jumbo-size) unit, the handles add a lot to the size.I had to do some reconfiguring of my storage.It does look quite elegant.My main issue is that the temp control goes into the griddle under a handle, making it difficult to see and operate.More difficult than you would ever think.Horrible design.As far as cooking goes, though, I really like it.It does have hot spots, any home unit will, but much less than a run-of-the-mill cheap unit.You can work around that by moving the food around.Scrambled eggs - enough to cover the whole thing - came out flawless each time, with no burning at the hot spots, pancakes too.I do run this a click lower than the suggested temps, which likely helps in that regard.This thing cooks much better than my $40 prior unit, the non-stick coating appears to be a lot better, and it looks 100 times better.All in all I like it, the pros outweight the cons.

Addition May 24 2010:Use this almost every weekend and have some experience with it now.Also, have now used the "buffet serving dishes" - which are 3 pans with lids that have cut-outs for serving spoons, in the commercial world these would be called one-third pans.Worked great - I was concerned the food would not stay hot at the highest recommended setting (simmer, or 200 degrees) but it did.There is a trim piece (large and somewhat delicate - something else to store) which encases the pans, that gives it all a very finished look, it looks real good on your table.Non-stick coating has yet to get any ding or other defect, but if you are doing something like eggs you may want to hit it with a film of cooking oil (or fry bacon first).The directions do say to "season" it frequently.The location of the temp control I still do not like but I've grown accustomed to it, not a big deal.Throw in the 3 year warranty instead of the usual one year and you have a winner.Bottom line is, I would buy this again, for sure, and I have increased my rating to 5 stars.

I received this oven in December and since then I've cooked a 13-lb. stuffed turkey, salmon fillets, a 4-lb. chicken, a casserole of stuffing, a lemon pie, peanut butter cookies, fajita vegetables, sliced sweet potatoes, and a frozen pizza.It took some trial and error but I think this will work well for me.What I like most about it is its pristine appearance and how easily it cleans up after use and then stores away out of sight.I like the fact that the timer alerts me when it's through cooking and I can watch the progress myself through the clear plastic container.I like that it requires no preheating and doesn't heat up the kitchen.I like that I can pause and interrupt the cooking to adjust the dish or add sauce or seasoning and then reset it to a new cooking time or temperature. I'm even becoming competent at using it to reheat coffee or my cold dinner. It's important to keep the food the correct distance from the heat source, or utilize aluminum foil to slow down the browning process or to allow food to steam through.I think this is a keeper for me as I continue to experiment with it.

I have Two of these grills.One at my home in Alabama and one at our condominium in Houston, Texas.Now, all of my friends have eaten my great steaks, wonderful grilled catfish fillets and shrimp, pork chops, chicken breasts, asparagus, and much, much more.It is fast, easy, no smoking (and I do not use water in the bottome tray) I just line the drip tray with aluminum and throw it away when I am finished cooking.If one of the chops, fish, etc., are thicker, I simply put a little piece of foil on top to hold the heat in so it cooks evenly, or I wait a few minutes or so before I add the thinner piece on the hot grill.It cooks evenly, and all of my food is juicy and better than our large, expensive outside pit.

The plastic bottom of the grill does not get hot, so I can put it on the counter top or outside on our patio table (using a little extension cord) and everyone has fun watching our meal cook...and they actually help, too.

Don't believe me -- get one for yourself and I promise all your friends will want one, too.

This little, low-tech sandwich griller makes excellent panini and "toasted" sandwiches of all kinds, plus grills vegetables.Just put in the food, some butter or oil, close the two sides together and cook right over the burner on your stove.

This worked great on my stove's gas burner.The instructions say that it will work with electric burners too, and also over charcoal and gas outdoor grills. I found it very easy to clean because it has a non-stick surface and its modest size makes it easy to store.The price is very good, especially when compared to cumbersome, electric sandwich makers.

There is one functional problem that keeps me from awarding this product five stars, and that is the hinge mechanism that connects the two sides of the grill.In order to make it easy to clean, the sides slip apart easily.The dark side of this convenience is that the sides tend to slide apart too easily.They frequently came apart during cooking, when I turned the closed press over to grill the opposite side of my food.This was a minor hassle, but not enough of a problem to prevent me from recommending this very handy kitchen gadget.

George Foreman Grill in Platinum with Bonus Omelet Plates Review

For weeks, I'd had the Red GF G5 on my wish list to buy, but while researching, I came across this one. Boy am I glad! Not only was it cheaper, it included the omelet plates that are normally almost $30 sold separately. I love omelettes and that was one of the reasons I wanted the G5. I ordered it on a Monday and it arrived the following Saturday. Everything was packaged nicely and nothing was missing. It included a recipe book with recipes for breakfast, grilling, baking, deserts, and even sauces for marinades. Central Chef also included their catalog, which has some very cool stuff in it! I'll be buying more from them soon.

For our family of four, this is the perfect appliance for healthy, easy meals. I haven't cooked that much on it so far, but I can see this becoming the most versatile appliance in the house.

The First Test:

Every Sunday, I make breakfast and the first meal I tried with the G5 were omelettes. I added diced ham, cheese, and fresh cut chives and they turned out perfectly and only took about 5-7 minutes on medium. No browning on the bottom and I didn't have to flip them! I normally like my omelettes big and stuffed with ingredients, but I got the G5 to help our family eat better with less fat and portion control. The omelet was the perfect size, tasted great, and literally slid out of the indentation...didn't stick at all, even with melted cheese on it.

For lunch today, I'll try steak and tonight for dinner, either chicken or tilapia with asparagus on the grill plates!

Things to know beforehand:

You might want to think about storage options, because the plates don't stack very well, and some plates will get used more than others. The G5 itself is quite large and is an awkward shape with the protruding handle. It looks great if you want to keep it on your counter, but it will take up some space no matter where you keep it.

It's recommended (and I agree) to use oil or butter on the pates so food won't stick. I use an oil sprayer to lightly coat the plate surface before I add the food and it works great.
Misto Gourmet Brushed Aluminum Olive Oil Sprayer

No appliance is perfect so my only concern with the G5 are the plate handles. They are plastic and seem a little flimsy. I'm sure they are fine in the dishwasher and will last a long time if you take care of them and don't bang them around, but I suspect they may shatter if they were accidentally dropped. And without the handles, the plates won't attach. That's my only concern just from holding the plates and inspecting them up close, but don't let that stop you from buying the G5. The entire set was well worth buying for my family.

I highly recommend this G5 and can't wait to use it more!

G5 Update

I've had my G5 for about 6 weeks now and I've used it about a dozen times. My wife cooks the majority of the time, so I usually use the G5 on the weekends. So far, I've cooked many omelettes (using both the indented plates and the flat griddle), teriyaki chicken and steak kabobs, tilapia, hamburgers, and boneless chicken breast.

The omelet plates make great, one egg individual omelettes for my kids. I've used fresh beaten eggs and the already made eggs from a carton. Fresh eggs taste better. Each indentation only needs about one egg whipped with a little milk so it's fluffy and I throw in diced ham (you can also chop up a hot dog) or pancetta, shredded cheese, salt and pepper. Note: Place the shredded or sliced cheese on top last so it won't stick to the top plate when it's closed. The heat will melt the cheese as it sits. Also, these plates should stay flat, not tilted as if you were draining fat.

For my omelettes, I use the griddle plate. I whip up 2-3 eggs with some milk and pour it on the griddle set between Med-High (keeping the G5 flat, not tilted). The egg mixture should spread out, using up almost all of the griddle. Close the lid to cook it fast and it will fluff up nice and light in about 5-7 minutes on High. Look at the griddle as if it were divided into 3 equal sections. I put all my ingredients (sausage, ham, green peppers, cheese) in the middle section. Once the omelet is cooked and fluffy, I'll fold the left and right sections over the middle section as if I were closing a book. After I fold the right and left "flaps" over the center section, I layer some cheese on top, turn off the G5 (keeping the lid open), and let it melt. Sprinkle a little parsley or dill to make it look great and taste yummy!

Kabobs are too easy on the G5! I bought them right out of the case at my local deli. Throw them on High and they sizzle up nice and tasty. About 4 will fit on the grill plate at a time. I also rotate the kabobs so all sides get cooked.

My wife cooked hamburgers on the G5, but they are not the same taste coming off our outdoor grill. Not a big deal, but it depends on how you like your burgers.

Tilapia cooked well, too. It gets nice a flaky quick on Med-High.

Chicken breasts seared nicely on High and cooked all the way through.

So far, the grill plates have stood up to multiple hand cleanings and dishwasher cycles. If you take care of them, they should last a long time. I haven't seen replacement plates online, so IF they break, you might have a hard time finding just the plates.

I hope to try some different recipes in the future, but so far, my G5 has been a great appliance and has not let me down.

- I liked the changeable cook surfaces but the locking mechanism could be better.
- Small.
- Cook plates can be easily hand washed.

CONS:
- Difficult to clean exterior.
- Small. Don't plan to cook for more than one person.
- An Easy Bake Oven has more cooking power.

Returned it after first use.

Cool looking but I would not recommend this to anyone.The heating element is not nearly as powerful as it needs to be. I tried to make waffles, preheated the thing on max, and it just wouldn't cook them. After about 15-20mins of cooking I gave up. It produced a soggy, pale, spongy waffle.

Little Chief Front Loading Smo Review

I have used a Big Chief for years and decided to leave it at my girlfriends house and pick up a Little Chief. I like the smaller size and also the front loading.I never filled the big chief or even came close so I was heating lots of air. The Little Chief shares its big brothers ability to make some absolutely terrific smoked foods. Chicken and steak smoked and then grilled are awesome. Smoked salmon is my favorite.Very easy, I never mess with brine unless I am smoking bacon or making some sausage. I have used much more expensive smokers and while they are nice they don't make food taste one bit better. This unit would get five stars except it is not as well built as the Big Chief. The metal seems thinner and the racks are kind of flimsy. Would still recommend without hesitation.Also make great gifts.We have given several and they gets lots of use and compliments.

I initially found this item on Target's web site but after shopping around, I found them here for almost half the price. The lights are great, no cheap plastic parts and they really make my landscaping look complete. They seem to be put together quite well so I have no real qualms about their quality there casing is almost all metal with only some plastic for the lens but the stake is all metal.I have had the lights setup now for two nights and they all work perfectly and I really like the white light they give off.

we bought this grill after eating a delicious dinner at a friends house--the pork chops she made were juicy and delicious--and only took 4 minutes total. It takes a few minutes to clean the grill afterwards, but I've found that if you mist or rub some olive oil on the grill first (no aerosol sprays) then cook, then keep the grill on while you wipe it off with a cloth and the plastic spatula provided it's not bad. So glad we purchased the grill.

It's a great panini maker at a very affordable price.Comparable to higher-priced models. When I was at a major department store the Giada design seems to bear/mimic the same design as more expensive units??? It does have a floating lid which allows it to accommodate sandwiches of various sizes which is helpful and sure beats the George Foreman grill which I had been using :)It heats up quickly and at the highest setting is able to make two-three pressed sandwiches in minutes.If there were a downside it would be the short cord which was integrated into the unit to make sure you didn't trip over the thing and the fact that it's very easy to leave plugged in and turned on.

All I have to do now is make myself that 'perfect' Cuban sandwich which will be the ultimate test of the Giada unit's 'pressability.'

I've only used this appliance a dozen times in a couple of weeks, so it might malfunction tomorrow, but. . .
In the first place, mine heats up very quickly, so I've begun putting my hamburger or sausage in it after about 30-60 seconds. It cooks ground sausage - like Owens brand - like a dream. Hamburger or sausage, you just place amound of meat in the center and lock down the top.The heating element is only in the top, so if appearance is important to you, flip the patty after a couple of minutes.Sausage is done perfectly, as are the hamburgers.I haven't tried frozen patties, because I prefer the taste of fresh.

Several Months Later Update:

Oh, poor me.This little appliance didn't live up to my expectations (after I bought a second one!)For one thing, the non-stick coating started coming off. Then the handle broke.Too bad.Unfortunately I cannot change the rating to fewer stars, but if I could I would have to reduce it to one star.

It works perfectly well.I have two minor complaints.One is that there is no real on/off switch.If you have it plugged in, and the heat dial at minimum, it still heats.That's important to be aware of.It's not your ordinary toaster, which doesn't do anything unless you push down the slider.Second problem is MUCH less important.The clip that's supposed to hold the top and bottom together in storage is totally worthless.Just don't depend on it.
That being said, it works very nicely as a panini press.The lid is flexible, and has a heat proof spot where you can tilt it to accomodate the thickness of your panini.The heat dial is generally accurate, so if you follow your instincts or the little cookbook, things turn out well.It's easy to clean up.I don't have enough room on the counter to let it out, but like most DeLonghi stuff, the style is very nice.

Our new fajita grill came with three of the four legs broken and the grill was unable to stay even without improper support.I called customer service and they told me that they did not have legs but that I might find them at a dollar store or small appliance center.The legs should have been of a durable rubber but were made of a brittle electrician type plastic.They are a specific shape that allows their plug into the above.We have looked and found nothing.So if you buy one, it does take up too much space and the plastic might melt but we need four legs that fit to use ours.This item is made in China so I might have to take a trip there to find the parts.The company should keep a good supply of free legs since this thing has a design flaw.

George Foreman GRP99 Grill, Grilleration Review

I got this based on the fact that you can put the grill plates in the dishwasher, HOWEVER, beware, they oxidize in the dishwasher. Meaning the back of the cooking plates, turn blak and wipe off on your towels, hands, ect. I called the manufactor and said this is normal, and i shouldnt wash them in the dishwaher very often. So much for convience!

Other than that problem, it cooks awesome! I loved the temp control and timer. Great Features!! Plus it held 6 burgers!

I would buy this again, but would never put it my dishwasher.
I will always wash by hand.

I've used a different sized foreman grill in the past (I believe the GR10ABWI which was more square shaped) this grill is really quite rectangular, so it seems like its width is too short.However, in most cases you aren't cooking large, square pieces of food.This gets the job done and has a nice feature of being able to suspend the top part over the food (without touching it) which is good for melting cheese.What George Foreman lacks in creativity for naming his offspring, he surely makes up for by inventing such a great grill!

I bought this grill at our local grocery store on special.I've wanted a panini maker for a long time and researched the one's out there.Either I rejected them because of the reviews or they didn't have all the features I wanted and the price was high.

The Haier 1400BSS doesn't have all the bells and whistles I wanted (removeable plates, interchangeable plates, temp control on both sides, etc.), but it does grill evenly on both sides and makes wonderful sandwiches.For the price, this is an excellent grill.I'll use it until it dies and keep saving for a professional model.

This unit does have the floating head (top), floating hinge lock, temperature dial, power and ready to cook lights, a drip tray that attaches (great), and a cleaning tool.It DID NOT come with any recipes.

The panini grill has a slight grill incline so the fats and juices run off.It can be used for cooking meats and veggies too.It's real easy to clean.Make sure you use cooking spray before making a sandwich and clean between uses.

I find that cleaning the unit just after making a sandwich, when the grill is still hot, is the easiest.Just use a damp sponge and run it up and down the grill on both sides.Then take a wet paper towel and go over it.BE CAREFUL the plates are real hot.

I've had mine for a week now and have used it 6 out of 7 days.Some days I've used it twice.LOVE IT. Takes a bit to get use to where the temp knob needs to be but with a little practice, you'll find the right spot.I put mine 3/4 of the way and it works like a charm.Haven't tried meat or veggies yet so those might differ.

The only non-positive things I can say about the grill is I think the floating head could be hinged more centered. The instruction book could give tips and suggestions too plus some RECIPES.

My BBQ Grill was in complete darkness before I had the Zelco Bug-off BBQ light.This light is very effective.It has a toggle switch for bug repellent (off, one bug type noise, another bug type noise, and then a dragon fly repellent noise).If you extend the arm, the light automatically turns on, with or without a bug repellent noise.This means you don't need to hear those high pitched noises (and you can hear them) if you don't want to.

My grill has no place to clip this on, but that is no problem.With the weight of the 4 D batteries, it sits securely on the side of my grill.In order to use the clip on though, you will need a totally flat ledge on the side of the grill.

I have owned this light for almost 2 years now and I am completely satisfied.

I was suprised at how good this cooker is, as I was skeptical.
First task: We picked up a fresh 5.2 pound chicken at the store, tied the legs together with cooking twine, and it fit perfectly in the roaster with a little bit to spare.(the larger chickens will need the legs secured, or pushed together to fit)It was jucier than that famous rotisserie on TV.The grease ran off as advertised, as it nearly completely filled the catch cup on the bottom. This is an A+.
Second task:Eggs.Three scrambled eggs, peppers/onions, topped with cheese.Used a light coating of spray to coat the top tray, just in case.Closed the lid and set it for 20 minutes.After 20 minutes, was nearly done, so set it for 2 more (total time 22 minutes).I couldn't believe the fluffiness of the eggs.Normally when I use a stove top pan, the bottom cooks faster than the top.This time, no burnt bottom.It slid right out of the pan, and I folded it over onto the plate.

It makes good omelets, but it is really great for stuffed pies. Did you notice there are two versions of the GFOM1, the ASIN BOOOJTWMSA and BOOOFYXLFW. From the descriptions I read list the only difference being: this model ,BOOOJTWMSA, is about 3 lbs heavier. I am no chef, but I would think that the a heavier pan would be better for baking, So that makes these pans better for my calzones, and individual pies.

But I'm really happy with it. It's nice that it has 8 places, (many sets only have 4) which makes it useful for larger parties. While i am careful with the teflon trays, i use the set a lot, and up to now they are fine. I found the idea of half stone/half metal grill to be interesting. I'm still not quite sure about the benefit of the stone, as all models i had used before just had metal. It's a pain to clean. And since i don't have the manual (floor model) I still don't know if it's dishwasher safe.
Durable product, looks great, works very well.

I see many complain about how long it takes to "heat up," but that's a misunderstanding of using convection heat. Just put whatever you want to cook in the oven--cakes, breads, lasagna, etc.--and it will cook as the oven heats. Because of the convection, there are no "hot spots" and nothing will burn. The only adjustment is the cooking time, but that can be gauged with a little practice. Easy to clean, makes wonderful toast, pies, fresh breads and roast cuts of meat.... I don't know what I'd do without this. The microwave is very flexible and easy to use with many different choices on the control panel.

Very easy to clean, which is always a plus. In the picture it looks like the pan is similar to a grill, however both pans we received had flat bottoms. Don't bother reading directions as they can be confusing, something must have been lost in thetranslation. Just figure it out on your own.

Meco 1519 Charcoal To Electric Smoker Accessory Kit Review

The Meco heating element was purchased as a replacement for the one originally provided in my Brinkmann electric smoker.
When the outside temperature was 50 degrees, the Brinkmann element would not reach the required 220 degrees that it was pre-set at the factory to reach, for barbecue cooking.
I had hoped that, since the Meco element had an adjustable heat setting that could be set considerably higher than 220 degrees, that I could reach the desired temp. of 220 to 230 degrees, even though the outside temp. was approx. 50 degrees. Not so. Identical performance as with the Brinkmann element, in a "cool weather" application. Neither product would reach over 180 degrees. Too low for barbecue.
Apparently, electric smokers are for "fair weather" barbecuing only.
I'll convert my smoker to propane.

I love this single burner range...I serially bought one of several different models (of single burner ranges) locally, tested them, and returned them all. I was disgusted. Then I got this one. It was considerably more expensive, but its rock-solid and has been in use about 18 hours a day, 24 in some cases, for several months.

Its a great size for pans and regular pots, but a bit too large for the smaller pots, like 1-1.5 qt (or even a 2.5 qt, if the latter's got a windsor bottom).

It warms up very quickly, and cools off more gently. If you're used to cooking with gas, this will be a shock because it's cast iron and holds the heat. If you're experienced in cooking with cast iron (pots, pans, ranges :), you'll find it utterly predictable, or at least I do. Sometimes you just have to remove the pan for a few seconds and turn OFF (not down) the heat.

I consider it easy to clean. I've never done more than blow a few crumbs off on the cast iron burner, but I imagine it IS a sponge eater if you scrub it with one (as noted by another reviewer). The burner has a rough surface, but that's all good in my book. It keeps pots and pans from too easily or inadvertantly sliding off the range - prevents potential disaster! The part of the range that I'm really concerned about keeping clean is what all surrounds the burner. That part is all brushed steel, with no seams or holes or "gingerbread", very sturdy, very professional, and a real breeze to keep clean.

Did I mention that I totally love this range, despite the hefty price? It was designed for working cooks, imho. If I ever need yet another burner, I won't bat an eyelash at getting this same model, or at recommending it to a friend.Apr '09 ----- >2 years after original review

West Bend 6112 Panini Press and Sandwich Maker Review

Firstly let me tell you why all the others suck : I had a fancy Cuisinart for 2 months with the removable heating plates and ended up throwing it way. They are made into "sandwhich shapes" for whatever reason and are supposedly dishwasher safe - NONSENSE . The problem here is that they are impossible to clean. I think the "crinkle cut" ones are also going to be super hard to keep clean. Everything sticks to them - so you have to be very aggressive when you remove your sandwich especially since everything is unbelievably hot and you have starving kids plucking at you. FRUSTRATING.

The West Bend on the other hand is flat. Just use a spatula and the sandwhich pops off. No need to use butter or Pam. Wait for it to cool and then wipe with a damp paper towel. I think the big thing is to not scratch the non stick surface - and the fact that this one is flat makes a big difference. It also has plenty of heat to warm everything up all the way through without having to burn the bread. No temp controls - really don't miss them.There is an indicator to tell you when the press is at temperature. All you need.

Very nice product - very nice price. I was prepared to spend up to $300 and I just got this. Very very happy! If all you want is a really good (small - or should that be compact ) toasted sandwich maker (2 max )- stop here and just buy it.

Yes it won't do nice grill marks on chicken or on your sandwiches - but who cares.

It also has ridges all round the bottom - so the fat/chess etc doesn't run out and onto the counter - most of the others just let it ooze out the front .. (if you are lucky )

Brinkmann - Electric Converter (812-3323-0) Review

I used the Brinkmann Electric Converter to convert a Weber One-Touch Silver 22 1/2" Charcoal grill into an awesome electric BBQ grill.I had a Masterbuilt Electric Veranda Model pedestal grill with a 1650 Watt variable output electric heating element, but with only 200 square inches of heating surface it was limited to cooking for about 2 to 3 people.I needed something bigger for when guests stop over for free food.The Weber is about 380 square inches, so I almost doubled my cooking surface!(Area = 3.14 X Radius X Radius).

Since the Weber One-Touch Silver 22 1/2" Charcoal grill is one of the most popular grills in the USA, I got one for $89 at a local hardware store.The Brinkmann Electric Converter through Amazon was less than $50 with shipping.I also picked up a cheap temperature gauge for about $10 at the hardware store that reads up to 750 degrees Farenheit.

The conversion was pretty straight-forward.I sat the Brinkmann element on the lower grill where the charcoal is normally located.Then I marked the area where the electric cord needs to come out of the grill.I used a cutting wheel attachment on an electric drill to buzz off some of the lower grill where the cord needs to come through.Then I used a 3/4" unibit to blast 3 holes through the bottom basin of the grill, and connected the holes together by using a 3/8" drill bit to buzz around the holes, kind of like an end-mill.(A 1" hole saw would have probably worked just as well, but I couldn't find one in my garage.)So once the hole was made, I simply sat the electric element in place, with the electrical cord coming out the back-bottom of the grill.I also hacked a couple inches off one of the charcoal scraper louvers so that it wouldn't bang on the electric cord.

I used a couple feet of aluminum foil to wrap around the rubberized insulation where the electric cord enters the bottom of the element, and held it together with some heat resistant tape. Then after setting the element in place I used some more heat resistant tape to seal the hole on the bottom basin of the grill, where the electric cord comes out.I used some cheap black spray paint from the dollar store to paint over the silver tape and some tool marks I had made.After drilling a small hole in the grill's lid for the temperature gage, I locked the gage in place with another small piece of heat resistant tape.Done.

The element cord will probably need an extension so that you can place the grill where you need it.I bought a 9' extension cord normally used for large appliances, such as a refrigerator.The AWG is 14, don't use 12 AWG as it will get warm to the touch when running this element, and the appliance extension cord does not get get warm at all.

The empty grill goes from 75 deg F to 350 deg F in 10 minutes flat.It doesn't seem to matter whether the lower charcoal scraper louvers are open or shut.I leave them open so that grease can drip down through the louvers into the pan that normally catches charcoal dust.After taking the lid off the grill to flip your steaks or whatever, the recovery time back up to 350 deg F is about 5 minutes.If the temperature gets too high for you, just open the vent on the lid and the temperature will drop about 5 degrees per minute.Close the vent when you get to where you want to be again.

This grill conversion tends to hold at about 350 deg F no matter how much or how little food is being cooked.It is so simple to operate that you can walk away from it for periods of ten to fifteen minutes without having to worry about it going past 400 degrees.It is perhaps the best BBQ grill I have ever seen, considering the ease of use and lack of filthiness associated with charcoal.Plus it doen't dry out meat the way a gas flame does, and the temperature is a very consistant 350 degrees (+- 25), perfect for cooking almost anything.

My Masterbuilt Electric Veranda was okay, but for a relatively small cooking surface I think the electric element was slightly oversized, and even though I got used to tweaking the temperature setting for the element, I still found the unit bursting into flames when least expected.This Brinkmann-Weber conversion is simple and reliable, allowing me to pinpoint cooking times within ten minutes.Try that with charcoal!All you need are a few tools, a couple of hours, a little ingenuity, and you will have the best grill on the block.

I've got 2 Weber charcoal grills - a large one, and a smaller "Smokey Joe" grill.Neither of them have a thermometer, so I decided to buy one of these thermometers for the larger grill.It's very accurate, and it definitely pulls the temperature from the probe, not from the metal surface of the grill lid.I tested this by gripping the probe tightly in my hand, which caused the needle to move to just below 100 degrees.However, when I gripped the meter housing in the same way, it did not move at all.I am highly confident that the temperature displayed on the thermometer is the temperature of the air inside the grill.

Installation is a breeze: Drill a 3/8" hole in whatever surface you want to mount this to, put the probe through the hole, and tighten the nut and washer down with a wrench or pliers.

The face appears to be some sort of plastic, probably to help keep it from fogging up.When I used my grill in the rain, it did get a little condensation inside, but not enough to obstruct the view.

I will definitely be buying a second one of these for my smaller grill.

Update, 5/4/2010:
I ended up buying a second one of these thermometers for my other grill.It works exactly like the first one, which I am very happy about.I mentioned before that I thought the face seemed like some sort of plastic, but now i am pretty sure it is glass, although I'll never know for sure unless I break one apart.Any ways, the reason for the update in the review is that the second one I bought is slightly different than the first one, in a good way!Mechanically and structurally, they are identical, however the printing on the gauge face was different on the new one.The first gauge was the same as the photo shown here on the product page, marked as "Smoke" from 100-225, "Barbecue" from 225-375, and everything after 375 is just empty white space.After using it several times, I kept thinking "I wish it said "Grill" for the temperatures above 375.Well, on the second thermometer I received, it actually DOES say grill in the 375-550 section.It's not that big of a deal, but I just thought I would post an update of my review to reflect the differences in the 2 thermometers that I bought from the same product page.

We love fried turkey but wanted a safe indoor alternative. THIS IS NOT IT. First it does not hold an 18 pound turkey as advertised.The ad does not tell you that it must be used OUTDOORS because it has dangerous carbon dioxide emissions.The turkey was NOT cooked in 1/3 the time, it took 3 hours.The drip pan dripped and now we have grease all over the patio.It tastes NOTHING like fried turkey and is a poor second choice to an oven made turkey.I see NO USE for this product what so ever.I am returning for a refund but who will pay for cleaning my patio and for that turkey that was no where as good as the turkey we usually make.I expect more from Butterball.It feels like they never bothered to try it before they took it to market.Fortunately we tested it before Thanksgiving or it would have been a disaster.

I invite someone from Butterball or Masterbuilt (imagine it took two large corporations to create this useless appliance) to contact me so I can tell them personally what a bad job they have done.I would give it ZERO stars if that was an option. Save your time, save your money, save yourself from a mess and an awful experience.

I just ordered my 2nd zojirushi fish roaster today. The first one I had quit working after about 11 months of constant use - I used it to roast Pike Mackerel, Steaks, vegetables, salmon, etc. For the amount that I used it, Im not too angered or surprised that it broke, but I wish it would last a little longer.

The roaster is awesome at cooking steaks and fish - and it gets done VERY quickly. Somewhere around 10-15 minutes from a raw fish, all the way to it being nicely cooked, same with steaks.

When I first bought the unit, there was very little smoke, just a faint smell of fish or steak, and I was very pleased. I probably used this everyday, or every other day for 11 months, and towards the end of the 11 months, it started getting really smokey in the house ( I dont know if the filter was failing, or if it was just all the oil on the heating elements), and I had to start taking the roaster outside - I live in a small apartment so its not a big deal, as I have a patio that is very close to the kitchen. And at the end of the 11 months, when I was cooking a steak, I realized that the top heating element just quit working... for 120 bucks, and the amount I used it, Im not happy that I have to buy another one, but I cant say I didnt get my money's worth.

Here are some annoyances that I found using this thing:

1) The bottome reflector tray needs to be covered by tinfoil or something because the oil that drips on the reflector tray is near impossible to get off, and you will ruin a sponge trying to clean it

2) The water you need to put in the bottom of the unit after a while will discolor the bottom. I left water in there overnight once ( I forgot to clean it) and I had some rust at the bottom - not too big of a deal, but it makes the unit unsightly on the inside.

3) the Unit gets SUPER hot, so dont place anything on top of it or touch it during the cooking process - Its common sense I know, but one of my buddies burned himself by touching it. Hes not the fastest fish in the pack, so maybe that was to be expected, but its something you should be aware of.

4) The grill inside is not very adjustable, and it gets a lot of burnt charcoal stuck to it. Had to buy a special sponge ethat gets the charcoal off. not a big deal, but still a very slight annoyance. i can deal with it. Here are the good things:

1) You can plop a steak in there, or some tomatoes, fish, whatever, and it becomes nicely grilled. does what its meant to do, quite quickly.

2) makes me not have to use the stove or the oven - BIG PLUS.

3) relatively small footprint for what it does.

George Foreman GR62 Double Champion Indoor/Outdoor Electric Grill Review

This is my second George Foreman grill (I wore out the teflon on my first one). I didn't have a timer on the other GF grill and really appreciate the fact that I can pretty much set it and forget it with the GR62. This one also has a much bigger grilling space than my previous grill which is a definite plus. The only thing that I might warn you about with this grill is it's size--if you don't have alot of counter space think twice about getting it or purchase the optional stand along with it because it is VERY large. I've read a few comments about the grill being difficult to clean when marinades and/or rubs are used so will a share a tip that I've learned from trial and error. After the grill is completely cooled, take a damp and soapy sponge or dishrag and thoroughly clean your grill. When it is completely clean, rinse completely with another damp sponge or dishrag. Then wipe the grill down with a paper towel. I've found that by doing this the teflon does not get damaged and I no longer have concerns about the cleanliness of my grill.

Well, I posted a nice review on Dec. 27, 2007 after purchasing this grill.After use of 2 to 3 times per month for 9 months it's totally stone cold dead.Plugged it in the other night, no lights, no heat.I am very disappointed.I will be trying to receive a replacement because it's too late for money back.Just wanted to post an update on the product.

Pros:Very easy to remove and clean the grill plates.When you replace the grill plates, they are secure.Cooks meat to perfection and makes a wonderful panini sandwich.Top locks in place, cord stores securely underneath for space saving upright storage.Clean stainless steel design.

Handle remains cool to touch.

Can be used under overhead kitchen cabinets.I have 18" from the top of my countertop to the bottom of the cabinet front and I have 1" remaining with the grill fully open.

Cons:Does not open all the way to lay flat for use as an open grill.

There is not much more than I can say.This is a fantastic crepe maker.I have used the villaware flip over and the pans and never enjoyed making crepes like I do with this maker.It takes a little practice using the spreader but when you get it, you will make perfect crepes every time.I used to love going to the pier in San Francisco and getting crepes, now in Florida I really missed that.The only thing I can mention about this is to thin your batter a little bit.This will help the spreading of the crepe.It also makes some of the best pancakes around as you can really control the temperature well.

I have been a countertop oven user for 20 yrs-even when my three children were @ home. Takes up less space and uses less energy. With the invention of the microwave, who needs a big stove. I use a countertop 2 burner hotplate also.

When my Maximatic ERO2006S (which I stumbled upon @ a discount warehouse) retired after many years (6-8) of faithful service, after much searching for the perfect replacement and finding many worthy contenders, I stuck w/Maximatic and went for the upgrade (Elite Professional ExLarge-23L-ERO2008S) which is a better value, I think, than the ERO2006S and definately worth the extra money.

This little oven is a big bang for the buck. I just love it. Rotisserie, broil, roast, bake, steams? griddle and oh yeah-makes great toast too. Roomy enough to roast 6-8 lb (at least) chicken or turkey breast. W/separately purchased pizza stone-a pizza oven. W/separately purchased steamer-a veggie steamer as well.

Listing @ just $10.00 more than its older model, Maximatic has kicked it up a notch or two. W/its updated snazzier look and larger size (height & width pretty much the same but depth, front to back is where most of the extra room is). Also much roomier cooking top. Profile is angled w/more room near the bottom which gives it a nice look. Looks much better than as pictured.

This one has a 'stay on' and timer function w/bell too. Yay!

The roomier multi-use top is very handy (why don't they all do this ???). The well thought out combo design enables the heat in the top to be put to good use as a steamer and warmer when roasting/baking/broiling. This was the biggest reason for choosing Maximatic in the first place and then replacing it w/the newer model. The top used as griddle is another cooking option (though seems somewhat cramped).

I was hoping a standard 9x13 would fit, but 2 8x8 works too. I have located some great cookware that does fit so not a priority or problem.

The brand is not well known @ least to me. The price was right for my first Maximatic and I was in a bind so I grabbed it, but would never have purchased an unknown or little-known brand if given a choice. The first one did not disappoint and I'm hoping this one will last as that one did.

After several months of light use, nonstick coating came off the removable plates. We took great care cleaning the plates, strictly adhering to the guides described in the product manual, but this happened anyway. Here is the worst part: even though our purchase was still under warranty, Salton was not willing to send us any replacement plates. They said they are out of stock two months ago, and are still "out of stock" as of last week, God knows if they will ever have these plates again. A terrible experience, will never buy from them again.

DeLonghi Alfredo Healthy Grill Black (BG16) Review

I bought this grill because I live in an apartment with no patio. I must say it works just great. I still haven't quite figured out if the aroma scenter in truly useful or not but that doesn't matter. If you are good at marinating meat before cooking this grill is ideal. A bit hard to clean, but I found a good scrub brush and dishwasher cycle does the trick. All in all there are a lot of griddles, Foreman type grills, and grill pans but I found the DeLonghi Healthy Grill to be the best in preparing meat with perfect grill marks if your into that type of thing. All in all its worth the price and better than the competition out there.

Sensio 13267 Bella Cucina Nonstick Panini Grill Review

I bought this particular panini press due to the small size, which was important to me b/c I don't have alot of kitchen storage.It is perfect for 2 sandwiches.It has a great non-stick coating which is super easy to clean. I wipe it down with a wet paper towel.So far I have only used it on the highest heat setting and it works fast and produces perfectly crunchy sandwiches on the outside and warm, melted ingredients on the inside.It's also very attractive with its highly polished chrome exterior.
My only negative points and the only reason I did not give it 5 stars:The plastic lock (which holds the top and bottom together for easier moving/storage) is difficult to latch and does not stay put.The plastic drip tray is a bit flimsy.And so far, in my experience, the heating light does not work properly.It stays on all of the time instead of indicating "ready".But that is not really a problem for me as I can tell when its hot (only takes a few minutes).
I admit, this is my first panini maker.I read alot of reviews here on Amazon before choosing this one based soley on its size.And I seem to be the first to review this one.It was between this one and a George Foreman grill.And once I touched the GF grill in person at a store, I didn't like it.Trust me, this is a much better quality appliance and well worth the money!So overall, I would highly recommend it!

Dimplex CBQ Electric Grill Shelf, Silver Review

I have the Dimplex PowerChef Convertible #CBQ-120-ELESTAND Electric Grill with Stand, Black/Silver.I purchased these shelves to have some surface to put food or tools on since I do not have a table nearby.They look good when installed on the grill making it almost look like a gas grill ( the cord is a give-away).There is one downside to these shelves, and it's more a problem with the design of the grill itself.To clean the drip pan, the grill must be removed from its stand.To remove the grill from the stand, you have to take the shelves off.That makes a an additional step just to clean the drip pan.I bought the shelves before I used the grill.If I had known how everything worked, I might have purchased a small table to keep near the grill.

Aluminum Heritage Lefse Grill Review

I bought this grill to make lefse but so far I have only used it for tortillas and pancakes. It works wonderfully and cooks 4 -5 pancakes or tortillas at a time. We purchased this Road Trip after having a horrible experience with a grill from Cabelas.That grill had the lava rocks that moved every time you moved the grill and besides that the legs fell off.We were looking for something that would have fold under legs and no rocks.The Road Trip saved our camping days.We purchased a bag for it, keep it stored in the belly of the camper and with putting water in the tray below the burners, it is very very easy to clean up.You can place this on the picnic table to cook on or use the fold down legs.We have also discovered that this is the best way to cook grilled onions and potatoes or pork chops or chicken, etc on the griddle. Old Smokey Electric Smoker Review

Sometimes, I tell myself sternly, you don't *have* to get obsessed. I could have spent a lot more money for a smoker, but I wasn't sure that I'm committed to this kind of cooking. The Old Smokey was our compromise between the really cheap, rickety smokers we saw in the hardware store and the "serious" models that cost over $200. And it was the right choice.

After using it three or four times, I'm really glad I chose this model. The operation is simple, and the equipment was put together without cussing. The workmanship is good; this thing won't fall apart.

I had a friend sneer at our choice of an *electric* smoker, but nobody has complained about the food that came out of it. Its convenience can't be beat: we plugged it in outside, and we could walk away. I didn't have to worry about running out of propane or loading up more charcoal. (Of course, we _didn't_ walk away... we came back ever so often to mop the brisket. But I didn't have to fuss.)

The smoker has two shelves, each of which (I can say assertively) can easily hold a 10-pound shoulder of pork or an 8-pound brisket. It's a good size, does the job it advertises, and it's made well. I'd buy it again.

Due to the fact that my apartment complex has gone to a prohibition on propane gas grills, I found myself in the market for an electric grill alternative.Like most of you, I electronically window shopped for quite a while comparing most of the major manufacturers of contact grills and Panini presses.It seemed that this has become a large market providing considerable choice to the consumer in this field.

All of these products seem to be a not too distant relative of the humble waffle iron.One of the oldest electrical appliances in manufacture, next to the slow cooker and electric counter top roaster oven, all which date back to the 1930s.I needed to stay below or at the $100 price point, so the very high-end units were out of reach.It was worthwhile looking at these higher priced grills in order to become familiar with the best features.Finally, I settled on this excellent indoor grill by Hamilton beach, with its unique temperature probe.The probe is no small innovation for a contact grill, because of the fast cooking time on most contact grills the difference between medium rare and well done is easily overshot and consequently missed by the most attentive of cooks.This feature makes cooking to perfection very easy.

So far, I've enjoyed great success with this not too big, not too small, indoor contact grill.I was able to prepare at one time a dozen mini-burgers known as sliders, on another night 4 large thick lamb chops and for another meal a tri-tip.This handy little grill performed beautifully, it also makes great bacon!

Cleanup is very easy, I've noted that many people with many grills have quite a bit of trouble cleaning their grills.I would like to offer some pointers on this problem.Although it is true most nonstick surfaces are regarded as dishwasher safe, however I would avoid this method as a generality.Nonstick surfaces can be deteriorated by excess use of detergent and harsh cleansers used in dishwashers.In order to preserve the longevity of the nonstick surface use little or no detergent whenever possible and rely on very hot water to do most of the work.A nylon brush is very convenient and safe to use on the surface.Also, rinse the plates very thoroughly because residual detergent can degrade the nonstick finish over time.I have had nonstick cookware that has lasted over 30 years, when treated with this kind of care.I also recommend using a paper towel and a small amount of vegetable oil to be massaged on the nonstick surface in order to maintain what chefs call good seasoning of the surface.This refreshes and protects the smooth surface and adds to its nonstick properties.It seems that some people are a bit over compulsive with their cleaning practices regarding nonstick surfaces.On this particular grill, I found that the narrow edge of an ordinary wooden spoon can easily push burnt on particles into the waiting drip tray.The rest can be handled with a damp paper towel or cloth.How easy is that!?

I have only one small issue with this otherwise marvelous contact grill.It's not a physical problem, but rather the name.Apparently the phrase "set it and forget it" is used in an entire product line by Hamilton beach.It's a very appropriate thing to say in regards to slow cookers and roasters.It is a very poor thing to suggest when dealing with very high temperature cooking with many issues that naturally require constant in-process cooking supervision.Most safety problems in the kitchen arise from inattentive cooking practices.I believe that this product could be renamed the Hamilton beach digital sensor grill and Panini press

In conclusion, I have some suggestions for Hamilton beach regarding future versions of this grill.

1.Consider producing alternative grill plates.In the form of a waffle maker, smooth griddle and a shallow pan that fits the griddle plate and allows the top griddle to become the lid for baking.I would package this separately as a completer kit for the original grill as well as offering it in an all in one boxed set perhaps complete with silicon tip tongs spatula and cleaning products and possibly an apron with Hamilton beach graphics proudly blazed across the apron.Include a well illustrated carefully researched and tested cookbook specifically conceived for this contact grill and Panini press.This would be significant added value to the unit at modest cost to the manufacturer.Perhaps developed by a friendly third party publisher.

2.Consider redesigning the Panini float handle in order to make it a three position grilling system.This is a common popular feature in many competing grills, allowing both cooking surfaces to lie flat or to float above the surface of the food broiler fashion and to control the pressure of the upper grill on the food being grills.

3.Most Panini presses and contact grills have a common technical flaw that has resulted in no small amount of frustration and consumer dissatisfaction in these appliances.This little flaw is in the use of a small safety feature used to control overheating.It is an inexpensive tiny little fuse typically mounted in the rear of the unit.These fuses are often overly sensitive to the predictable heat levels that commonly occur in these grills.When this fuse self sacrifices to protect the grill from overheating the customer is stuck with a significant dilemma.Generally this occurs after the warranty is expired and they have very little recourse.This is a two dollar part that can mean the early demise of an expensive and very useful counter appliance.The natural conclusion is to replace this fuse with a resettable circuit breaker that accomplishes the same purpose but does not require warranty issues or product replacement.For the added cost this would result in considerable savings to the manufacturer in terms of issues they would not have to deal with and not to mention result in much happier customers over time.This is a universal problem throughout this category of appliances and why no one has addressed this issue is a big mystery to me.

This is a very fine example of a modern contact grill and Panini press.It is an excellent build and seems very sturdy, I expect many years of good service from it.I hope this review has been worthwhile.

hi, wow cannot believe no one has reviewed this grill yet this is the best indoor electric grill i have owned and i have been wasting money for 5yrs trying to find a good indoor grill have owned almost every one sold here on amazon and they all cook the same like a goerge forman meat is tough and tasteless especially steaks and very hard to clean after each use witch really sucks but not this one the reason i considered this one was because in the past i used to have an outside electric grill that cooked very well everything tasted like it was cooked on a real grill so i looked at the design of this grill and seen it was made just like an outdoor electric grill so i thought what the heck will give it a try i am very glad i did even though it did not have one review on it well after recieving it witch it is basically already put together i bought some rib eye steaks i always test with steaks first because that really decides if it is a good grill or not to me its hard to cook a good steak on these grills so tenderizid and marinated the cuts oh, ya you cant do that on these other electric grills like formans just scorches the meat and tastes like crap thats also why steaks tast so bland on those grills so i let the grill heat a little bit threw them on took about 30 min to cook and there was absolutely no smoking up the house whatsoeverhere is my honest opinion the meat tasted like on an outside grill just missing the smoke flavor witch is the only drawback with inside grills because if it smokes it cant be used inside i have heard of people putting flavorings and such in the bottem tray of grills kind of like this though and said it added that smoke flavor but it did have flavor you could taste the marinate i believe if i would have marinated longer like for 4hrs or so it would have been really good but ya i was very impressed with it the meat was not dry either like other indoor grills and the clean up is a breeze only have to clean two parts thats it the bottem try that catches the grease you put tin foil in so it has no cleanup i think this is as good as it gets for indoor grilling in my opinion and i have tryed them all so i think anyone reading this should definitly give this little grill a try they wont be disapointed

As a condo owner, we cannot have a gas or charcoal grill due to fire laws. So I really missed my grill, so I took a chance and bought this grill. Although there are bigger grills out there, this one simply works GREAT! And the "flavor enhancer" (which to me works like a mini smoker) really is a great feature. Cooks steaks, burgers, pork, etc. ALMOST as good as gas grills. Only slight drawback is that it DOES produce some smoke in the kitchen. But to me, it's worth it to get a great grill.

This is a great Grill! When you are pushed for time and want to 'eat now' it is the best thing! I have only tried grilling fish in it (best for dropping pounds! lol) It only takes a few min. This unit just isn't very good.It doesn't cook things evenly.If I put anything (pancakes, french toast, bacon, etc...) in the center of the unit, the food always cooks unevenly.For example, a pancake will get a brown stripe down the middle but the edges remain white.Same with french toast.And there is about a two inch spot all around the entire cooking surface that is much cooler than the rest of the griddle.So you're forced to cram everything into the center or risk half your item coming out raw.To top it off, the literature that comes with the griddle tells you to set it at certain temperatures for different foods (375 degrees for bacon, 375 for french toast, 350 for pancakes, 325 for ham slices, 400 for steaks, etc...), but the temperature control unit settings are listed as #1 thru #5.You'd think that maybe each number represents a temperature setting.But they only list 4 different cooking temperature levels in the manual while they have 5 different numbers on the control.How the heck are you supposed to know what number equals 375 degrees?Very poor design.

I don't care how much money you have to spend on a griddle.Whatever you do, just don't spend it on this one.

My video review will follow the assembly stages and my first use of the Dimplex PowerChef Convertible Electric Grill, but it's here that I will let you know what I really think.

Delivery - Buyers should be made aware that this will most likely ship via a freight company. Now while it's nice that the driver will carry it through the front door, it does require them to arrange a "time frame" for delivery. Mine was 8:00am - 12:00pm and of course it was delivered at 11:56am. For anyone on a 9-5 work schedule it's a bit inconvenient, but with the size of the boxes it's understandable.

Unpacking & Assembly - It comes in 2 large boxes. (See my customer image) Both the stand and grill are securely packed with plenty of styrofoam and can be easily removed from their boxes. Tools required for assembly are an allen wrench, small flat wrench (both included) and I recommend a power screwdriver if you have one, although a standard phillips will work. I am very comfortable putting furniture, toys, etc. together and was able to put the stand and grill together in less than 30 minutes.

Use - You have two options for cooking: A pre-programmed setting based on what you will be cooking or manual setting.My first time using it I chose a pre-programmed setting for pork, which worked very well and since then I've also used the manual setting which produced results just the same.After several uses now, my preference is the pre-programmed settings. It just makes grilling a no brainer and allows you to focus on guests or family instead of checking on it constantly. Not only does it preheat the grill, it tells you when to add and turn the meat over and then when it's done. My first night I cooked a marinated pork loin that came out juicy and not at all over cooked. (See my customer image) As a precaution I did use a meat thermometer to check for doneness and it was spot on. As for the taste, it was no different than if I had cooked on my gas grill. Additionally burgers and ribs have been just as delicious.

Clean Up - Before my first use I lined the drip pan with foil to help with clean up.This was the easiest thing to do and I continue to do it each time I feel it needs to be changed.As for the grilling grates, I made one mistake my first use.As with most grills you should oil it down before placing your food on it for the first few times to "season" it. I didn't do this and not only did the pork stick, but it left me a terrible mess to clean. I think it took about 30-45 minutes for me to thoroughly clean it off to my satisfaction. Since then I have oiled it well with vegetable oil before grilling and the meat is no longer sticking.

Overall - I have to admit that I like my gas grill. Preheat time is about the same and clean up is no different than the PowerChef. But where this grill sells me is on the fact that it's always ready (No running out of propane), timed cooking (No need to hover) and it's portable. We can easily remove the grill from the stand, put it in the back of the truck or even in a trunk and take it with us - of course you will need an electrical outlet!Will I be giving up my gas grill? Not yet, but it's not because I don't like the PowerChef.I live in the Pacific Northwest where we have lots of moisture and per the "Important Instructions #13 - Never use an electric grill in the rain, sleet or snow". So while this grill will definitely be our summer grill, it will probably have to go to the garage during fall, winter and spring. For anyone in a dry climate, this will be perfect for you year round!
